In 1964, the Beatles were banned from performing in Israel. An official government investigation into the Liverpudlian moptops discovered compelling evidence that their “’yeah yeah yeah’ howls are capable of striking dead a real beetle”.

Following this ban, they shortly afterwards retired from conventional touring altogether – save for a special round of gigs solely playing 1930s tunes to Lancashire mill workers in their canteens at lunchtimes, a move commemorated in their frankly baffling 1967 single, ‘Gracie Fields Forever’.
